    Likely last entry

I have decided to abandon this blog -- its main purpose was to post pictures and I have found flickr a better place to do that.

If you are interested my flickr photo site is http://www.flickr.com/photos/briansullivan/

Direct URL to a particular MSN Spaces photo

My regular weblog has a procedure for using a particular spaces photo:

Direct URL to a particular Spaces Photo Album

I published a procedure for pointing to a particular Msn Spaces photo album from another web page or weblog.

    New Theme

Changed the "theme" of this blog to one of the less cluttered ones introduced with the official launch of Msn Spaces.

It seems also that Spaces is very slow today ( and I have seen at least one of the dreaded generic asp error messages). I am not sure if it is a coincidence or a result of the newly deployed system.

Talking about MSN RSS Directory & More

    MSN RSS Directory & More

The My MSN RSS aggregation beta and the MSN RSS Directory are now LIVE.

Find RSS or ATOM feeds on the Internet and add them directly to your My MSN homepage.  Show articles from 1 day old to up to 365 days old, display 1 to 30 articles, and choose to show articles as a tool tip or following the article headline/subject.

My MSN finally introduces their RSS aggregator -- now not only can you publish your weblog -- but you can read others(either MSN Spaces or non MSN weblogs) via RSS with just MSN software.

Talking about 1.5 million Spaces! My MSN supports RSS!

Which brings me to the other announcement today.  Sometime VERY soon, My MSN will be live with RSS support.  This hasn't been officially announced yet, so this is a bit of advance notice.

Mike Torres is talking about a soon to be released/announced RSS aggregator for MyMSN -- I hope it is accompanied by an information campaign for MSN Spaces users. Without an RSS aggregator (so you can use those "Syndicate this site" links) a Blog is a one way conversation -- gets pretty boring and frustrating quickly and would cause "MSN Spaces to become community roadkill".

    German Console Tube Stereo

A neighbour has this console stereo sitting in his garage (his mother moved and had no place for it). It looks like it is just from the furniture showroom floor but was purchased, as far as I could determine, in the late 60's or early 70's.

The receiver itself appears similar to another one that I found a while ago and documented here.

Tube -- 100% functioning (including the turntable). Any interest out there?

    Christmas is over

Everything has quieted down -- Pat and Catherine are off to Vaughn Mills shopping, Matt went with David skiing at Blue Mountain. So it is just the dog and I here on our own.

I have to find a local party store as a few neighbours will be here for New Year's Eve.

    At home for Christmas

Matt is home -- we are ready for the Christmas Eve neighbourhood get together and the dog is confused.

You'd think I could spell my own name?

I noticed that the url I picked for this weblog is:

(three l's --not two) I am not sure what to do now

    Nice RSS for photo albums

Spaces produces really nice RSS entries for photo album entry -- with clickable thumbnails for every picture.

    MSN Spaces is "OK"

Copied from Brian Sullivan's Random Musings

It seems "OK" -- not much control of layout or visuals (and the existing templates seem so 90's). It does attempt to solve one of the ugly problems of weblog editing (uploading pictures) but does so in a way that is incompatible(it uses an Activex component) with anything but IE (it does provide an out though for non IE browsers).

Viewing the weblog has a nice slide show display of pictures (but it doesn't seem to work as nicely for Firefox as for IE -- deliberate?).

Otherwise it seems to have most of the things that define it as a weblog -- RSS syndication, TTW editing, displaying posts in reverse chronological order, a "link" list, comments, traceback, permalinks all with no apparent deliberate appropriation of function under a different name in an attempt to own the definition(something Microsoft seems to have done often in other spaces) or changing of the traditional definition.

It has a few oddballs -- wtf is the "Music list" ?-- seems less than useful in its current incarnation.

It is still a beta though. As someone indicated perhaps this is like IBM getting into the PC game -- legitimizes the category.
